(Bill HR748): Kids Around - Lock Guns Down!
Our map shows federal and state safe gun storage laws. We focus on Child Access Prevention (CAP) to guns with kids at home. Incredibly, 76% of school shootings involve a family gun.
Our goal is to pass Ethan's law. We must reach 217 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives before Congress will vote on the bill. The bill is named after our son Ethan who was shot and killed by an unsecured gun at a neighbor's home. Ethan's Law passed in Connecticut, with overwhelming, bipartisan support.
Safe Gun Storage is a Bipartisan Issue: See Florida, Texas, and Maine Laws
PURPOSE: A national safe gun storage law -- specific to homes with children -- will reduce deaths caused by suicide, school shootings, and stolen firearms. It will reduce unintentional deaths. At the moment, there is a great deal of confusion because there is no consistent storage law from state to state. Florida, Texas, and Maine -- pro-gun states -- all have their own version of Ethan's Law. Let's unite to keep kids safe! Sign the petition below and commit to calling one legislator today.
New Gun Safes Open in a Flash!
A Million Free Gun Safes to Keep Kids Safe
Mike Song opens a biometric and pin code gun safe. It takes five seconds. New gun safes open at the speed of a smartphone. This is a win-win for gun safety and gun owners. Let's pass Ethan's Law and use targeted funds to deliver 1 million free gun safes to American gun owners.
ETHAN'S LAW PETITION
COMPLETE TO JOIN THE MISSION!
Yes! Congress must pass a safe gun storage law that keeps kids safe! Every year, almost 3,000 children are shot by an unsecured firearm. It's time to pass Ethan's Law (HR748)
GUN DEATH RATE BY STATE
Why Do Opponents of Gun Safety Laws Focus on Cities?
Why do gun safety opponents always focus on city-data? Their goal is to distract you from the much more meaningful State data. According to 2020 CDC data, the top seven safest states average 4.5 gun deaths per 100,000. All are considered to be solid Blue States with strong gun safety laws.
The seven least safe states have an astonishing 24.8 gun deaths per 100,000. This is five times the gun death rate in the best seven states. Each one of the bad states has an F rating for safe gun storage laws and six of the seven states are considered to be solid Red.
The top seven states, all democrat, have much lower gun death rates than the rest of the country. The seven worst states, all Republicans, have the worst per capita gun death rate.
When examined by state, the CDC data from 2020 is stunning. Let's all help to #keepkidssafe by passing Ethan's Law.
Thank You to All Who Work to Keep Kids Safe
Ethan's Law is a Connecticut and National safe gun storage law that passed with overwhelming, bipartisan support. The law was the result of a statewide effort that took place after Ethan Song, a 15-year-old Guilford teen, was accidentally shot and killed with an unsecured gun in a neighbor's home.
Ethan's parents, Mike and Kristin Song are now working on a national bill and education program that will save lives and protect kids. Ethan's Law is a collaboration of state and national gun violence prevention (GVP) groups and advocates. Of special note is the contribution of Po Murray and the Newtown Action Alliance who have worked around the clock for years to move Ethan's Law forward.
Special thanks to Rep. Rosa DeLauro and Sen. Richard Blumenthal for putting Ethan's Law in front of Congress.
